This customer came to us for a customised gym and office space for their garden in Lympstone. They work from home and wanted an office space away from the house to keep their work-life balance, and the additional space offered the perfect opportunity to include a gym.
From our initial conversations with the customer, we had on a site visit to understand the location and what we were working with. Caroline had design ideas in mind, which we worked with to create mock-up drawings and decide on a final look for the build.
These designs were also used to assist the customer in the process of applying for planning permission, which was needed in this case. Once the planning permission had successfully gone through, we got straight into the building.
We created a 6.5 x 3.5 metre garden office/gym space, with double-glazed double doors and lots of UPVC windows, this allowed for natural light to flood in. The gym space and office are divided by a partition wall meaning Caroline can have separate spaces for her gym and work.
The whole build took our team six days in total, we started by laying a solid cement base for the garden room to sit on. Once this had dried, we constructed the room, using cement fibre board cladding (this was requested by the client) and then finally we installed all the doors and windows. In this case, we also carried out all the electrical installations for the client, ensuring plug socks were placed in the right areas for desk and gym setup.
This structure is fully insulated and has a sloped pent roof to allow for all our Devonshire rain to run straight off. We ensured the garden room was very safe and all windows and doors had secure locks on them.
